Mulatu Alemayehu

Mulatu Alemayehu Moges is an established researcher of online media in Ethiopia, where he currently works as an assistant professor at Addis Ababa University. He has also been a senior consultant on a project investigating online-based debates of the Ethiopian general elections in 2015 on behalf of the universities of Oxford and Addis Ababa. The results of this study, which focused on the prevalence of hate speech on digital platforms has received a wider attention from a wide spectrum of scholars, policymakers and media personnel. His PhD at the University of Oslo focused on how the media dealt with internal conflicts in Ethiopia, which is one of the main focus for this project. His expertise is on several issues including hate speech, conflict reporting, peace journalism, safety and COVID-19, elections, peace journalism and risk communication. He was also a coordinator of NORPART – the Journalism Capacity building project between Norway and Ethiopia between 2016 to 2023. He completed his MA in Journalism and Communication from Addis Ababa University in 2007.
